Horns Rev C Substation to Start Taking Shape Next Week

The jacket construction and the topside built for the Horns Rev C offshore substation have reached the Port of Esbjerg, from where the pieces will be shipped to the installation site some 20 kilometers off the Danish North Sea coast by the end of this week, weather permitting.

The installation of the two pieces is expected to start next week, the Port of Esbjerg said.

The 1,888 tonne topside and the 1,300 tonne jacket were built for the high voltage substation of the 400MW Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm.

The topside was built by HSM in Schiedam, while the jacket was constructed and delivered by Hollandia Offshore.

Developed by Vattenfall, Horns Rev 3 is situated off the west coast of Denmark, and is expected to generate green power for some 450,000 households when fully operational.

The first turbines at Horns Rev 3 are expected to be connected in 2017.
