News – September 5, 2008

The Oman Daily Observer reports that a joint venture of Consolidated Contractors Company, Sezai Turkes – Feyzi Akkaya Ltd (STFA) of Turkey, and Jan De Nul has been awarded a contract to undertake the recently announced expansion of Duqm port.

The report said that, acccording to officials, the new investment is an add-on to an existing contract currently being executed by the consortium for the development of the marine infrastructure of the port. That contract, awarded in April 2007, covered the construction of breakwaters and quay walls, and a substantial dredging and reclamation package.

As a result of the latest announcement, the total investment in the marine works infrastructure being executed by the CCC/STFA/JDN consortium has been scaled up to around RO 522 million.

The additional funds cover extending the breakwaters and deepening the harbour basin and entrance channel.

The harbour basin will be dredged to a new depth of -18m (from -16 metres previously), while the harbour entrance will be deepened to -19m (from -18m previously).
