Shipping ministry plans to merge existing port legislations into a consolidated act

Shipping ministry is understood to be working towards merging existing port legislations namely, Indian Ports Act, 1908 and Major Ports Act, 1963, which rule over government-controlled major ports, private and non major port of the country, into a single comprehensive Act. According to ministerial sources, the merging exercise is already over on paper and the report is being studied by shipping ministry.
