India: ABG to Deliver Jack-Up Rig to Essar at 2012 End

India: First Jack-Up Rig Delivery for Essar Scheduled for 2012 End

India’s Essar which ordered two jack-up rigs from the compatriot ABG Shipyard back in 2008, is expected to take delivery of the first rig in December this year.

The second rig is scheduled for delivery by 2Q 2013.

Under the original contract, ABG Shipyard was expected to deliver the jack-ups in 2010 and 2011. According to LiveMint, the reason for delay of deliveries lies in the fact that Essar in the meantime decided to make some changes in the technical specifications.

The rigs, valued between $450-500 million, will be able to operate in a water depth of up to 350 ft. They will have a maximum drilling depth of 30.000 ft and will be able to accommodate a crew of 120. Friede & Goldman JU2000A design ensures that the rigs will be ready to meet the constantly changing needs of the worldwide harsh environment market.

ABG Shipyard is building the rigs at its yard at Dahej, Gujarat.
