Japan: price of spot LNG arriving in March drops

Japan’s price of spot liquefied natural gas cargoes arriving in March averaged US$6.8 per mmBtu on DES basis.

The price edged down slightly from the $6.8 per mmBtu during February, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said in its latest report.

This is the lowest the price has been since the ministry started publishing monthly reports in March 2014.

The price of LNG cargoes arriving in Japan dropped 10.5 percent compared to the $7.6 per mmBtu reported in March 2015.

The ministry did not reveal the price of spot-LNG contracted in March as there were less than two reporters that imported spot-LNG during the month.

Only spot LNG cargoes are taken into account in this assessments, excluding short, medium and long-term contract cargoes, as well as those linked to a particular price index.
