Japan: Tokyo Gas August Sales Rise 0.3 Percent Y/Y

Total gas sales volume by Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., for the month of August 2011 came to about 1,031.738 million m3, increased by 3.389 million m3 (+0.3%) from August 2010.

In the residential sector, volume totaled 127.853 million m3, up 1.6% from August 2010, owing to the increased demand for water-heating due to lower average temperature in August compared to that in last August.

In the business sector (consisting of commercial, public, and medical use), due to the lower average temperature in August leading to the decreased demand for air-conditioning as well as to lower operation rate on the part of existing facilities, the volume decreased by 16.7% to 259.677 million m3.

In the industrial sector, volume totaled about 480.215 million m3, up 13.3% from last year due to higher operation rate of existing customers’ facilities, etc.

Volume for wholesale supply to other gas companies totaled about 163.992 million m3, down 1.8% from August 2010 due to decreased demand of wholesale gas suppliers.

The total gas sales volume for the cumulative period of April to August 2011 was 5,243.713 million m3, down by 2.1%.
