Japan Welcomes First PNG LNG Cargo

PNG’s Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his delegation inspected on Wednesday the LNG tanker Spirit of Hela, which arrived on June 3 in Tokyo and is currently berthed at the PNG foundation customer, Tepco’s Futtsu terminal.

TEPCO has already agreed to import more LNG from PNG in the coming years and anticipates this to continue for the next 20 years and beyond. This was announced by TEPCO’s President, Naomi Hirose at the ceremony commemorating the arrival of the first PNG LNG in Japan and supported by TEPCO’s Managing Executive Officer, Toshihoro Sano, a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office of Papua New Guinea said.

Prime Minister O’Neill once again thanked PNG’s foundation customer of our LNG, TEPCO and similarly expressed PNG’s appreciation towards ExxonMobil for making the PNG LNG Project a successful one. Today marks the completion of the unloading of the over 80,000 tonnes of the first PNG LNG from the ‘Spirit of Hela’ into TEPCO’s Futtsu Termal Power Station,” the statement added.
