Japan’s LNG imports in October down YoY

Japan’s imports of liquefied natural gas dropped 12.8 percent in October as compared to the same month a year ago.

The world’s largest buyer of the chilled gas imported 6.06 million tonnes of LNG last month, preliminary data from the Ministry of Finance reveals.

Japan paid 357,024 million yen for imports in October, down 42.4 percent as compared to 2014.

LNG use and purchases by Japan’s ten independent regional electric power companies also dropped in October when compared to the same month in 2014.

The companies consumed 4.13 million mt of LNG and bought 4.05 million mt, down 8.1 percent and 18.9 percent, respectively, FEPC data showed.

According to FEPC, total electricity generated and purchased across the ten companies in October declined by 4.6 percent to 65.71 billion kWh.
