Japex holds groundbreaking ceremony for Soma LNG

Japan Petroleum Exploration started the construction of an LNG terminal in Shinchi Town, Fukushima Prefecture (Soma Port).

Japex is also preparing to construct a connecting pipeline that will transfer regasified LNG from the terminal to its main trunk pipeline.

The company has already acquired interest in North American LNG projects which will be its main supply source of LNG for the Soma terminal that will be put into operation in March 2018, Japex said in a statement.

This receiving terminal consists of an LNG tank (230,000 kL capacity), a dock for ocean-going ships, a shipping facility for coastal ships, an LNG vaporization facility, a shipping facility for tank lorries, and associated utilities.
