JAPEX to Build LNG Terminal in Japan

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. (JAPEX) will build a new import terminal for liquefied natural gas at Soma Port in Fukushima Prefecture, the company said in a statement.

The terminal will have one LNG storage tank, an LNG tanker berth, and the project also includes adding 40 km of pipeline that will connect the LNG terminal to JAPEX’ gas supply networks. The LNG will be sourced from Canada where the company has a stake in the Pacific Northwest LNG project, operated by Petronas.

JAPEX said it would invest about 60 billion yen ($592 million) in the LNG project, which is due to start operations in March 2018.
