Lithuania to use Dutch LNG experience

Minister of Energy Rokas Masiulis, called on Monday for a tighter cooperation between Lithuania and the Netherlands during a forum between representatives of the two countries’ LNG sector.

Masiulis stressed the possibility to use the Dutch experience in developing the LNG business in Lithuania and the Baltic region, a statement by Lithuania’s Ministry of Energy said.

Lithuania is looking to develop Klaipeda as a regional LNG hub so lot of importance at the forum was given to the LNG use as a fuel in road transport and off-grid gas supply to isolated settlements as well as to the investments into the small scale LNG sectors.

Lithuania’s minister added that his country needs to follow the Dutch example in establishing an LNG platform in order to connect businesses and government agencies while an LNG cluster is planned to be established in the seaport.
