LNG use by Japanese utilities drops in August

LNG use by Japan’s ten independent regional electric power companies dropped 2.6 percent in August when compared to the same month in 2014.

The companies consumed 4.71 million mt of the chilled gas in August, preliminary data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPC) shows.

The ten utilities purchased 4.87 million mt of LNG in August, down 2.5 percent from the same month last year.

Total electricity generated and purchased across the ten companies in August 2015 declined by 0.9% from a year earlier to 78.34 billion kWh.

FEPC said that the nuclear capacity factor was up from the last year, resulting in a year-on-year increase in nuclear power generation to 0.27 billion kWh.

Capacity factors in August this year and August 2014 were 0.9 percent and 0 percent, respectively, it added.
