Lundin gets permit for appraisal well in Barents Sea

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for an appraisal well in the Barents Sea offshore Norway.

The well 7220/11-5 S will be drilled from the Ocean Rig-owned Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible drilling rig.

The drilling program for well 7220/11-5 S relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 609.

Lundin Norway is the operator of the license with an ownership interest of 40 per cent. Other licensees are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge (30 per cent) and DEA Norge (30 per cent).

The area in this permit consists of the blocks/parts of blocks 7220/6, 7220/9, 7220/11, 7220/12 and 7221/4. The well will be drilled 4.5 km southwest of the discovery well, 7220/11-1.

Production license 609 was awarded on May 13, 2011 in the 21st licensing round on the Norwegian shelf.
