Marine-1 Rig to Start Drilling 12 Wells in South Pars Gas Field

Marine-1 drilling rig is set to start drilling 12 wells in phase 20 of the South Pars gas field after completing its operations in the oil layer of the field, Managing-Director of the International Drilling Company Pourya Pornouri said.

“The Marine-1 drilling rig should drill 12 wells in Phase 20 of South Pars in its new mission“, Pornouri said.

He noted that the operations of Marine-1 drilling rig in Phase 20 of South Pars will last for three years, adding that the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) has commissioned the International Drilling Company to conduct the drilling operations.

Last year, Managing-Director of Petro Iran Company, Saeed Hafezi, announced that the Marine-1 drilling rig had entered South Pars Gas Field area to start drilling in the oil layer of the field.

“The drilling rig is one of the most advanced ones which is smart and could be remotely controlled. The 9 thousand tons drilling rig is not only able to drill up to 15 wells without moving from one place to another place but can drill up to 7,000 meters,” Hafezi said.

“Even though purchasing drilling rigs is not among the inherent duties of Petro Iran Company, it decided to buy Marine-1 drilling rig in order to speed up implementation of projects and completing infrastructures,” the official added.
