METI to Host LNG Producer-Consumer Conference, Japan

METI Announces Program for LNG Producer-Consumer Conference

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) will hold the second Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Producer-Consumer Conference on September 10, 2013, and has announced the program of the conference.

The circumstances surrounding LNG have changed dramatically in recent years, in both producing countries and consuming countries. For example, the shale gas revolution will certainly have significant effects due to the boost in gas production. Also, in gas consuming countries, policy change is occurring that impacts on LNG procurement, including diversifying its resources.

At the first conference last September, LNG producers and consumers shared their views, including challenges faced in the LNG market. The second conference aims to deepen the discussions, updates the market situation, and encourages discussions including the challenges of LNG market, and ideas about what actions both producers and consumers need to take toward a more transparent and sustainable market.
