New Cruise Pier Inaugurated at Piraeus Port

On October 3, 2016, a new cruise pier, Pier Saint Nikolaos, was inaugurated in the Greek port of Piraeus.

The project was built with caissons and provides additional 284 meters of berthing space for vessels with a draught of up to 11 meters. The land area occupies 8,415 square meters.

The upgrade allows the port to moor up to ten cruise ships simultaneously, depending on the size of vessels.

The project was completed by TEKAL (Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund) in cooperation with Naftiliaki Technodomiki.

Under the new concession agreement with the Greek State, the Piraeus Port Authority plans to implement a number of large investment projects aimed at making Piraeus the top Mediterranean cruise port.

In August 2016, China’s port operator Cosco Group (Hong Kong) Limited officially acquired a 51 stake in the Piraeus Port Authority.
