Number Eleven for Abis Shipping Company

On Friday 16 March 2012 the MS Abis Cuxhaven was christened by Nienke Huisinga, daughter of Hans Huisinga, co-shareholder of Abis Shipping Company B.V., who felt very honoured to be part of this time long maritime tradition. The Abis Cuxhaven is the eleventh vessel to be added to the shipping company’s fleet, which resides in Harlingen, the Netherlands. Furthermore she is vessel number three of the total of four vessels of Abis Shipping’s C-series.

Heavy loads and project cargoes

During the christening managing director ReneĢ van de Graaf of Abis Shipping said: “I am proud of our ever-expanding team at Abis Shipping and, naturally, of the latest addition, Abis Cuxhaven, to our fleet.” The Abis Cuxhaven was designed by Volharding Shipyards and built by Hangzhou Dongfeng Shipyards. The ‘MPP/ general cargo with ice class 1B’ vessel will be able to transport all kind of general cargo and project cargoes. Furthermore, the vessel has a 6,050 deadweight with a length of 114 metres, a depth of a little over six metres and a breadth of 14 metres. The vessel will sail under Dutch flag.

Safe travel

After her maiden voyage in November 2011, the Abis Cuxhaven was docked in the harbour
in Harlingen for her final fitting. Van de Graaf took a moment during the christening to thank captain Oldenburger for his part in the vessels safe passage from China to the Netherlands. The Abis Cuxhaven’s sister vessel, the Abis Cardiff, was en route making her maiden voyage at the time of the christening ceremony and was scheduled to arrive in the harbour in Harlingen later that month. The other sisters vessels Abis Cadiz and Abis Calais were delivered in, respectively, 2010 and 2011.
