PHOTO: Maersk Oil installs second Culzean jacket

Danish oil company Maersk Oil has installed the second Culzean jacket in the UK sector of the North Sea. 

The Maersk Oil-operated Culzean development concept consists of a wellhead platform, a central processing facility platform, and separate utilities and living quarter platform.

The first jacket, for the wellhead platform, was installed in the North Sea in May 2016. The second jacket, for the central processing facility (CPF), started its journey across the North Sea in late June, followed by the third and final jacket, for the utility & living quarter (ULQ) platform, sailaway last Friday, July 7.

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) was in charge of the construction of all three Culzean jackets.

Maersk Oil informed through its social media channels on Wednesday that the second jacket has now been installed next to the first and that the team is now waiting for the last jacket to arrive.

Once all the jackets are in place, the next step will be the arrival of topsides which will happen over the course of 2018.

The Culzean field – discovered in 2008 – is situated in the British sector of the Central North Sea approximately 250 kilometers to the east of Aberdeen in license block 22/25a. The water depth is approximately 88 meters and the reservoir is located around 4,300 metres below sea level.

Earlier this week, Maersk Oil hired Wood Group to provide mechanical and management services for the hook-up and commissioning of the Culzean gas condensate field in the UK central North Sea.
