Picture of the day: Wheatstone platform in place

Chevron’s Wheatstone LNG project recently installed the topsides on its offshore gas processing platform, 225 kilometres from Ashburton North.

The platform topsides represent the largest single integrated topsides float-over installation Chevron globally has ever completed, and is the largest offshore platform ever installed in Australia. The topsides weigh 37,000 tonnes, are 28m above sea level and have been designed to withstand 12 storey-high waves, the company said.

Chevron adds that the platform has the capacity to process two billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Wheatstone is a joint venture between Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (64.14 percent), KUFPEC (13.4 percent), Woodside (13 percent), and Kyushu Electric Power (1.46 percent), together with PE Wheatstone, part owned by Tepco (8 percent).
