Poland: Gdansk Shipyard Acquires Mostostal Chojnice

From the 1st of December 2011 Mostostal Chojnice has become the branch of Gdansk Shipyard. The tender, announced in September, has just selected a new tenant of Mostostal Chojnice. Gdańsk Shipyard became interested in the plant, as its production profile is perfectly compatible with the offer of the Shipyard and fits into the business plan of the Shipyard, which foresees diversification of production.

Mostostal enables cooperation on several levels: markets, production experience exchange, geographical proximity to the Shipyard, complementary production potential and experienced crew.

We count on strong commitment of the Mostostal crew as well as the Gdansk Shipyard crew in repairing the company” said the President of Gdansk Shipyard, Andrzej Stokłosa. The Shipyard’s Board announced continuation of steel structures production in Chojnice.

The shipyard’s management has already started the integration process with Mostostal as recently both plants jointly carried out two large contracts for the German market (Thyssen Group). Mostostal faces now the challenge of reconstruction, clients recovery and finance organizing. Upon contract signing, the plant in Chojnice operates as the branch of the Shipyard. The cooperation is based on full capacity utilization of Chojnice as well as Gdansk. The shipyards berths will provide a perfect assembly site for the large-size steel constructions produced in Mostostal. The quantifiable synergies are many – the production assets and experienced staff just to name a few. The other important synergy field is the cost meaning the savings in purchasing or cost rationalization. Last but not least, market synergy – competitiveness strengthening, and thus extending the offer and capabilities.
