Providence hits water at Druid, moves on to Drombeg

Providence Resources, drilling at the FEL 2/14 block offshore Ireland, on Friday said the well 53/6-1 had penetrated the Paleocene Druid prospect.

The license contains the Paleocene “Druid”, Lower Cretaceous “Drombeg” and pre-Cretaceous “Diablo” prospects.

According to Providence, the well, which spudded on July 11, 2017 using the Stena IceMAX drillship, penetrated the Druid within the pre-drill depth prognosis having been drilled to section target depth.

“Preliminary petrophysical analysis of ‘Logging While Drilling’ (LWD) data indicates that the Druid prospect comprises a porous water-bearing reservoir,” Providence said.

The company is now moving on to drill the deeper Lower Cretaceous Drombeg exploration target, which is situated c. 1,000 meters beneath Druid.

Providence, with a 56 percent interest, is the operator of the license located is located in c. 2,233 meters of water and c. 220 kilometers off the south-west coast of Ireland.

Its partners there are Capricorn Ireland Limited (a  subsidiary of Cairn Energy PLC, 30%) and Sosina Exploration Limited (14%).
