PSA Identifies Room for Improvement at Island Innovator

On 5 March 2013, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit activity directed at Island Innovator Drilling and intervention semisubmersible rig, which involved a review of preparedness-related aspects.

Odfjell Drilling will operate the facility on the Norwegian continental shelf. The PSA’s activity was carried out as a step in the processing of an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) for the facility.

Objective

The objective of the audit activity was to verify the organisation and management system on the facility with regard to the preparedness discipline against applicable regulatory requirements.

Result

Nonconformities were identified in connection with:

securing loose inventory and equipment in the living quarters

communication during evacuation to rafts

life jackets

VHF in MOB boat

Furthermore, improvement items were identified in connection with:

storage of life jackets

preparedness analysis and preparedness plan

helicopter deck’s identification marking
