BP recovers body of worker missing from Deepwater Gunashli platform

BP has recovered the body of an offshore worker who went missing from a BP-operated platform in Azerbaijan.

BP on Friday confirmed to Offshore Energy Today that the body of the person reported missing on November 8, 2016, has been recovered.

“BP, as operator of the Azeri-Chirag- Deepwater Gunashli field development, deeply regrets to confirm that a body has been recovered from the seabed in the vicinity of the Deepwater Gunashli (DWG) platform. The body was transported to shore where it was received by the appropriate law enforcement agencies,” a BP spokesperson said in an email.

BP also said that it has been confirmed by KCA Deutag, the employer of the person who went missing from the Deepwater Gunashli platform, that the recovered body is that of the missing individual.

 In an email to Offshore Energy Today, a KCA Deutag spokesperson said:”KCA Deutag regrets to confirm that the body of one of its employees, working on the Deepwater Gunashli platform, has been recovered from the Caspian Sea. The circumstances around this tragic death are unknown at present.

At this extremely difficult time our thoughts are with our lost crew member, his family, and friends as they mourn the loss of a loved one. Our thoughts are also with the crew on the rig as they come to terms with the loss of a colleague.”
