Report: Petrobras to suspend operations at Ceara LNG import terminal

Petrobras of Brazil could suspend operations at its LNG regasification terminal in Ceara state and the connected thermoelectric plant that has already been put on sale by the company.

The Ceara state infrastructure secretariat intends to repurpose the area where Petrobras’ LNG terminal is located, Reuters reports citing a document filed by Petrobras to the Brazilian national agency of petroleum, natural gas and biofuels.

This would also result in the shutdown of the terminal’s operations.

The power plant linked to the regasification terminal has also encountered a number of issues, especially with the turbines, Petrobras said in its letter.

Recently, South Korean Kogas recently signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation on the development of an LNG import terminal with the Ceara state. According to the MoU, Kogas is set to work on a project that would see the existing infrastructure, the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the port of Pecem, into a land-based import LNG terminal.
