Severnaya Verf Lays Keel for Ice Class ARC4 Cargo Vessel

Two days ago, on Nov 14th, the keel has been laid for a new ice class ARC4 cargo/ammunition vessel of Project 23120 which is being built at the Severnaya Verf shipyard in St. Petersburg. Under the contract, signed with the Russian Ministry of Defense on June 29th 2012, Severnaya Verf will build three ships of Project 23120 for the Federal Agency for the Procurement of Armaments, Military and Special Equipment, and Logistical Resources (Rosoboronpostavka).

Vessels of Project 23120 are designed for loading, storage, transport and transfer of dry cargo from the vessel to the coast and different ships. Also, the vessels will tow ships that are in distress and provide assistance for their crews.

The first ship is scheduled for delivery in November 2014, the second – November 2015 and the third – November 2016.

Based on the existing contracts, Severnaya Verf is contracted by the Russian Navy for construction and delivery of 6 Project 22350 frigates, six Project 20380/ 20385 corvettes as well as a communication ship under the Project 18280, which are to be completed by 2020.

According to the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, Severnaya Verf is currently the sole supplier of Project 20380/20385 corvettes as well as Project 22350 frigates for the Russian Navy.
