Santos GLNG Scoops Award for Responsibly Managing Impact on Communities

Santos GLNG has scooped a national award that recognizes the business’s efforts in measuring and managing the impacts of its operations in Queensland.

Social Impact Measurement Australia’s panel of judges announced Santos GLNG as the winner of the Impact Measurement Achievement Award in the Government, Corporate or Philanthropic organisation category, at a recent ceremony in Sydney.

Santos GLNG Social Performance Manager John Phalen said the award recognised the business’s track record of measuring the impacts of its operations and managing them effectively.

“We have a proven ability to operate responsibly, safely and respectfully across multiple Queensland communities to earn the trust of the people our business touches,” John said.

“As a proud Australian-owned and operated company that has been operating in Queensland for decades, we want to remain a valued member of the community as we build a world-class gas project that will deliver benefits to Queensland for many years to come.

“This is why we developed Santos GLNG’s Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP), which outlines how we maximise the benefits and mitigate the impacts of our activity across the Maranoa, Banana Shire, Central Highlands and Gladstone regions.

“Our SIMP was introduced in 2012 after more than 2,000 discussions held over three years with community members, and focusses on six key areas: water and the environment, community safety, social infrastructure, local business and skills development, Aboriginal engagement and community wellbeing and liveability.

“We have invested more than $50 million into regional Queensland communities where we operate and we continue to proactively engage with communities on social impacts and mitigation strategies through a range of forums and channels.”

Santos GLNG is a pioneering joint venture between Santos, Petronas, Total and Kogas to supply liquefied natural gas to global markets.
