SHI Floats Out L-Type Containership Ever Libra

Ever Libra, the sixth L-type containership in Evergreen Line’s fleet was launched, Oct 16th, at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) Geoje shipyard in South Korea. The L-class containerships are 334 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide, with 942 reefer plugs and a draft of 14.2 meters. The vessels can cruise at a speed up to 24.5 knots.

The new 8,452 TEU containership will be delivered on 22 October.

This type of a containerships meets the standards of international regulations for environmental protection. Namely, the design of the vessel enables cutting of CO2 emission by 15% when compared to the carrier’s earlier award-winning S-class “green ships.”

Evergreen Group’s previous shipbuilding program was completed with the delivery of the S-type Ever Salute in January 2008. The Group commenced a new shipbuilding project in 2010 and ordered 20 L-type vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries, to be delivered by 2014. In 2011, Evergreen placed an order for another 10 vessels of the same specifications with Taiwan Shipbuilding Corp., to be delivered from 2013 to 2015.

This year Evergreen expects delivery of seven out of 30 ordered containerships.
