Shizuoka Gas sells first LNG from Shimizu terminal

Shizuoka Gas has completed the first sale of LNG from the reloading facilities at its Shimizu liquefied natural gas terminal on Sunday, February 5.

The company has been looking to increase the utilizations of the Shimizu LNG terminal and to reduce the cost of liquefied natural gas in the fully deregulated gas market in Japan, including the retail sector of city gas distribution from April 2017.

The company is also aiming to increase the handling capacity of the terminal in order to take advantage of the liquidity in the expanding global market and further reduce the LNG procurement costs.

Shizuoka Gas completed the construction of the reloading facilities in April 2016 enabling it to ship the stored cargo.

In June 2016, the company entered into an LNG sale and purchase agreement with Shell Eastern Trading, through which the first LNG sale from the terminal has been actualized, according to the company’s statement.
