SLT Gets Full Landing Status of SEA-ME-WE 5 in Matara

Sri Lanka’s national ICT solutions provider, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT) has gained full landing status of SEA-ME-WE 5 cable station in Matara, Sri Lanka.

The SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable has been designed with the upgradable 100Gbps technology, enabling an initial system capacity of 24Tbps per second on 3 fibre pairs.

The cable will link East Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Construction of the cable began in September 2014 and is due to be completed by the end of this year.

SLT’s international backhaul network consists of three main cable stations at Colombo, Mt Lavinia and Matara connecting to SLT’s international backhaul hub at the Welikada premises.

According to SLT, multiple undersea optical fibre cable systems: SEA-ME-WE 5, SEA-ME-WE 4, SEA-ME-WE 3, Bharat-Lanka and Dhiraagu-SLT will be interconnected through fibre optic ring.
