Sovcomflot strengthens position in Sakhalin-2 project

Russian shipping company Sovcomflot has expanded its presence in the Sakhalin-2 project, operated by Sakhalin Energy, a company owned by Gazprom, Shell, Mitsui and Mitsubishi.

According to an SCF statement, the company has agreed to purchase two platform supply vessels from Swire Pacific Offshore, meaning all three platform supply vessels used in the Sakhalin-2 project are now operated by SCF Group under long-term time charter contracts with Sakhalin Energy.

As part of the Sakhalin-2 project SCF Group in partnership with the Japanese NYK Line also operates two LNG tankers, each with a capacity of 145,000 cubic meters, the Grand Aniva and Grand Elena.

It also operates three Aframax shuttle tanker, the Zaliv Aniva, Sakhalin Island and Governor Farkhutdinov.

All these vessels are on long-term time charter contracts with Sakhalin Energy and are used to transport hydrocarbons from the port of Prigorodnoye to Asia-Pacific countries.

The Sakhalin-2 LNG facility with the capacity to produce 9.6 mtpa is set to be expanded with the addition of a third LNG storage tank, a third liquefaction train and a new jetty.
