Sri Lanka: Colombo Dockyard Celebrates Significant Milestone

The significant milestone, celebration of the 20th anniversary and entering into Joint Collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard of Japan, was celebrated at a gala event which took place on the 26th of March 2013 at the Cinnamon Grand, Oak Room. Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister for Economic development graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Pioneer founder members were also recognized at this event, Mr. A Ragunathan, Founder Managing Director (Posthumously), Mr. A K Diyabalanage –Managing Director, Mr. Lal Dassanayake, General Manager and Mr. Valantine De Silva, Finance Manager were felicitated.

The gathering was addressed by Mr. Mangala P B Yapa, Managing Director/ CEO, Mr. Akihiko Nakauchi, Chairman and Mr. T Nakabe, Director / President-Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd.

A special recognition award was presented to honour Mr. Y. Hamane, Director/ Honorary Advisor for his visionary thinking and guidance to the company to reach these heights. This award was accepted by Mr. T.Nakabe, President of Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd on behalf of Mr. Y. Hamane.

To mark this milestone an illustrative Coffee table book “Voyage of Distinction” was launched by Colombo Dockyard, and the first copy was ceremonially handed over to Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development chief guest for the function.

A cross section of the Islands business community, educational institutes, Government institutions and the shipping fraternity were treated to spectacular entertainment acts specially customized for the event by Channa Upuli dance troupe, Voice Print and Mr. Jananath Warakagoda.
