Statoil to Use West Alpha for Norwegian Sea Exploration

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has granted approval to oil company Statoil to carry out exploration drilling with West Alpha offshore drilling rig.

Statoil will use the 1986. built semi-submersible rig to drill the 6610/10-1 well, located in PL 286 in the Norwegian Sea.

The drilling, in a water depth of 244 meters, is expected to last 42 days, starting in December 2012 at the earliest, the PSA Norway informed through its website.

West Alpha rig, owned by Seadrill, has been mostly operating in Norway for various oil companies ever since it received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in December 2001.
