Stena Drilling stacks rig at Hanøytangen yard

Offshore drilling company Stena Drilling has decided to warm stack its semi-submersible drilling rig Stena Don in Norway.

The driller has selected Semco Maritime’s facilities at Hanøytangen yard in Bergen, where the rig will be stacked, ready for future work.

Stena Don arrived at the yard on Wednesday, November 16,  and has previously been on a contract in the Troll field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Stena Don is a class 3 semi-submersible rig built in 2001, and has recently been upgraded with a modern equipment package.

The harsh environment rig is suitable for drilling, completion, and workover operations worldwide.

“Hanøytangen’s facilities include both wet dock and dry dock, which are tailored for assignments such as this where a rig arrives for a brief stopover, a Compliance Renewal survey or large-scale upgrade work before returning to operations,”says Semco’s Business Development Manager Øistein Tømte.

Dock facilities at Hanøytangen comprise several dock areas, including a dry dock of 116×125 meters and quay areas with depths of at least 100 meters.
