Suncor spuds appraisal well at Beta Statfjord

Borgland Dolphin

Canada’s Suncor Energy, through its Norwegian subsidiary Suncor Norge, has started drilling operations at its Beta Statfjord Nord prospect, in the North Sea, offshore Norway.

The appraisal well 34/4-14 S is located in the PL 375 and is being drilled by the Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig, 155 kilometers west of Floro. The drilling operation should have started in January, but according to Petro.no, it was delayed as the rig was unavailable due to upgrades and 5-year Class Renewal Survey.

Suncor made the Beta Statfjord oil discovery in 2009. The discovery was appraised and tested in 2010 and 2012 and appraisal work is now moving on to assess its future potential.
