Tanker Ablaze off Busan, Crew Evacuated

A fire broke out on board a chemical tanker off Busan, South Korea on Saturday, March 14th.

The 3,400–dwt Sun Wing was carrying 16 crew members on board, who had all been evacuated by the Korean Coast Guard, Yonhap news agency reports.

According to Coast Guard reports, three members of the crew have sustained injures in the fire and have been transferred to hospital for treatment.

The tanker was last reported to be listing on its portside, sinking under the pressure of the water ingress.

The 1997-built Sun Wing, owned by Japanese company Shokuyu Tanker and managed by South Korea’s ST Marine, was loaded with nitric acid and sulphuric acid.

The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
