UK: Gas Imports Down in Q1

UK Gas Imports Down in Q1

The UK’s imports of gas decreased by 21.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2014, compared to the same period last year, with shipped imports of LNG accounting for 9.0 per cent of all imports.

Global competition for LNG has increased so there has been a substantial reduction in LNG imports into the UK. The majority of the UK imports originated in Norway (67 per cent) and the Netherlands (21 per cent), according to data from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

UK gas demand decreased by 19.6 per cent compared to Q1 2013, principally as a result of the warmer weather leading to decreased demand for gas from domestic and other users, DECC said.

The country’s production of natural gas fell slightly by 0.2 percent.
