Unconventional Gas a Game-Changer at Gastech 2011 (The Netherlands)

Representing game-changing developments in the international gas industry, innovations in the field of unconventional gas are exerting considerable forces on the global gas industry. The Gastech Conference & Exhibition in Amsterdam next month will spotlight unconventional gas, its place in the global energy mix and how it will affect global markets.

With new unconventional technologies, there are potential challenges for engineers and operators working for the natural gas companies that deploy these innovations. Held 21-24 March, Gastech will feature an ‘Unconventional Gas Conference stream,’ in conjunction with the Gas Technology Institute, which aims to address the significance of the advancements and accelerating evolution of the industry with in-depth, high-level considerations to wider issues and concerns in the sector.

“With Gastech including unconventional gas in the mix, you have one event that’s looking across the entire value chain. With the large number of exhibitors and the many opportunities to see what’s available, it’s like being able to attend many conferences in one place; it’s a very efficient opportunity for people.” – Guy Lewis, Managing Director, Exploration & Production Sector, GTI.

Chevron Global Gas will present a conference paper examining European unconventional gas and whether it will affect the European market to the same extent as in North America. The paper will discuss the flow-on effects of large supplies of unconventional gas being pushed into European markets and displacing other gas supplies.

Shell will present a conference paper that will address the predicted outlook for domestic gas production in Europe and the role of unconventional gas. The paper will identify recent developments in unconventional gas in the USA and worldwide to establish how this could apply to European gas markets.

Morten Frisch Consulting will explore critical questions as part of an analysis of the role of unconventional gas and shale gas in the future, and in particular the effects it might have on developments in international gas trade.

BG Group will highlight the commercial and technical challenges of converting coal seam gas (CSG) to LNG in Australia, and how it will break new ground. The paper, presented at Gastech, will discuss how the scale of these projects will require a new approach, compared to the traditional models typically applied to major offshore conventional oil and gas developments.

The 2011 Gasetch conference content is expected to surpass the high standard set by previous years, reflecting the current fast-moving developments in the industry. A must-attend for anyone operating in the global gas industry, the Gastech conference brings the world’s professional gas community together, to understand the issues impacting on our business today and in the future.
