UPDATE: Williams Assessing Damage Caused by Plymouth LNG Explosion

Williams Partners provided an update after an explosion and fire occurred on Monday at its liquefied natural gas facility outside Plymouth, Washington.

The reduced evacuation area that remained Tuesday was lifted at 2 p.m. local time and all residents were free to return home. Company personnel were on site to continue to secure and evaluate the operations and safety of the facility, while developing a plan for assessing the damage and the cause, the company said in a statement.

Williams said it is cooperating with regulatory agencies involved including the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The LNG facility and a compressor station remain offline pending repairs. The natural gas transmission pipeline (Northwest Pipeline) is operating and no interruptions to customers are expected based on the current supply/demand profile in the region, the company added.
