Dredging Project Near Shallotte Inlet Begins

The Coast Guard has announced that dredging is scheduled to begin today within the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Federal Channel near Shallotte Inlet Crossing in Brunswick County, N.C.

The project will continue 24 hours a day until Jan. 1, 2012.

Dredge operators will monitor VHF-FM channels 13 and 16 to coordinate passage.

Floating rubber and submerged polyethylene pipeline associated with dredging operation will traverse southwesterly along the southernmost shoreline of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway from Shallotte Inlet Crossing to the intersection of Shallotte Boulevard and then on land to the designated fill placement area on Ocean Isle Beach. Pipeline vessels and established crossings will be visibly lighted and marked with floating buoys in accordance with Coast Guard regulations.
