USA: Lenox Hosts Meeting on Housatonic River Cleanup

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a public meeting of the Housatonic River Citizens Coordinating Council tonight at 6:30 at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School.

EPA officials are expected to review a document released last Friday that gives a broad vision for using dredging, excavating, capping and monitored natural recovery to deal with PCBs in the river and its flood plain that spread from General Electric Co.’s former Pittsfield plant.

We want everyone to have a full understanding of how we’re approaching the challenge of cleaning up the Rest of River,” said EPA Regional Adminis trator Curt Spalding in a phone interview on Wednesday.

This meeting is open to the public.
