USCG Airlifts Injured Seaman off Los Angeles

A US Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles aircrew medically evacuated an injured crewmember from a container ship approximately 40 miles west of Los Angeles Sunday afternoon.

Eleventh Coast Guard District personnel were notified February 16 of a crewmember from the Hyundai Tacoma, a Liberian-flagged container ship, suffering an injury with possible broken bones approximately 880 miles west off the coast of Oregon.

The medical crew aboard was able to stabilize the crewmember but recommended medical evacuation prior to their next port of call in Los Angeles March 5.

Due to the proximity to Los Angeles, the Coast Guard Flight Surgeon recommended the crewmember be medically evacuated Sunday. At approximately 1 p.m. local time, the Air Station Los Angeles aircrew was launched and arrived on scene approximately two hours later.

The man was hoisted and brought back to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the air station. The crewmember was reportedly in stable condition.
