VIDEO: Hyundai Heavy lifts Aasta Hansteen LQ onto topside

Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil shared a video of Aasta Hansteen living quarters being lifted onto the topside.

The lifting took place January 9, 2016, in Ulsan, South Korea, where the platform is currently being constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The Aasta Hansteen living quarters were completed in early November 2015 in the Netherlands by CKT, a Dutch company building accommodation modules for the offshore oil and gas industry. CKT said it took the company more than two years of engineering and building to complete the living quarters.

Once completed, the LQ was loaded on the Dockwise Swan vessel, and sailed to South Korea to be mounted on the Aasta Hansteen topsides. According to Statoil, it took the LQ 39 days to reach South Korea.

As for the platform itself, Hyundai Heavy Industries is building both the lower hull and the topsides in South Korea. Once done, the parts will be shipped to Norway on separate heavy lift vessels for final assembly.

The Statoil-operated Aasta Hansteen gas field, in the Norwegian Sea, is situated at a depth of 1300 metres in the Vøring area, 300 kilometres from land. It will be developed using a floating integrated platform of the spar type and two subsea templates with a total of eight well slots.

Norwegian energy ministry recently said that first gas from the field would come later than originally expected due to delays in construction of the production platform. First gas is now expected in 2018, instead of 2017.

Statoil’s partners in the project are Wintershall, OMV and ConocoPhillips with 24%, 15% and 10% stake, respectively.
