Vineyard Wind Ready for Geological Surveys

Vineyard Wind is set to begin carrying out geological surveys for the 800MW offshore wind project in Massachusetts, the U.S.

The surveys will begin on or about 23 September in shallow waters in and just outside of the Centerville Harbor and Muskeget Channel.

The estimated duration of the work is 10 to 15 days.

Vineyard Wind planned to begin project construction this year and have the wind farm operational by 2022. However, the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced in July it is postponing the issuance of the Vineyard Wind Federal Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS).

The agency said it is not yet prepared to do so and that a supplemental draft EIS process needs to be undertaken.

The 800MW project will feature MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines located some 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard.
