Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Ltd. has shared a video showing the WaveWalker 1 walking jack-up barge in action at the project.

WaveWalker 1 has been at the Thorntonloch Beach in East Lothian, Scotland, over the last week, exploring the best options for installing the wind farm’s offshore export cable.

The nearshore geotechnical survey work is being carried out by Fugro along the project’s export cable corridor route off the Fife coast.

The survey comprises intertidal and marine borehole locations at intervals from low water on Thorntonloch beach out to approximately 2km along the proposed Neart na Gaoithe export cable corridor route. A seabed sample is collected at each of the locations.

Prysmian will design, supply, install, and commission two HVAC 220kV three-core extruded export submarine cables with single-wire armoring which will reach land at Thorntonloch beach, as well as two 220kV extruded land cables circuits that will link the landfall area to the substation at Crystal Rig and two 400kV extruded land cables circuits to link the Crystal Rig substation to the Scottish Power’s substation.

Neart na Gaoithe will feature 54 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines located off the coast of Fife. The 450MW project is expected to enter offshore construction this summer, with full commissioning in 2023.
