WinGD approves use of Mitsubishi turbochargers for dual-fuel engines

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co. informed that Winterthur Gas & Diesel approved the first use of a MET turbocharger on its dual-fuel engines.

The turbocharger will be mounted on two dual-fuel engines manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), MHI-MME said in its statement.

The engines will be installed in an 180,000-cbm LNG carrier (Hull 2462) commissioned by a shipping company capitalized by Itochu Corporation and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

Verification tests were carried out using an X72DF test engine at Diesel United. MHI-MME added that the W6X72DF engine was provided with two sets of MET66MB turbochargers and tested in both diesel and gas mode under supervision by WinGD’s engineers.
