Wintershall gets nod for Balderbrå drilling

The Norwegian offshore safety body, Petroleum Safety Authority Norway, has given a nod to Wintershall to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.

In a statement on Tuesday, the PSA said Wintershall would drill the exploration well 6604/5 in a prospect named Balderbrå.

Wintershall Norge AS, a subsidary of German Wintershall, will use the West Phoenix semi-submersible drilling rig for the project.

The drilling operation is expected to start on October 1, 2017, and will last 36 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

Balderbrå is located in the production license 894. Water depth at the site is around 1220 meters.

As for the rig, it is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the Moss Maritim CS50 type, operated by North Atlantic Drilling, a subsidiary of Seadrill.
