Wintershall to drill Syrah with Borgland Dolphin semi-sub

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given consent to Wintershall  to drill exploration well 35/11-18 with Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig in the Norwegian North Sea.

Wintershall is the operator for production licence 248 in block 35/11. According to the PSA, the formation into which the well will be drilled is designated ‘Syrah’.

The PSA said that the drilling is scheduled to begin in August 2015 and estimated to last 48 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

Borgland Dolphin is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the Aker H-3 type.

It was built at Harland & Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1977 and underwent an extensive upgrade in 1999.

The rig is owned by Borgland Dolphin Pte Ltd and operated by Dolphin Drilling A/S. It received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in September 2004.
