Worldwide offshore rig count for September rises

The worldwide offshore rig count for September 2018 rose year-on-year but slightly dipped compared to August 2018.

According to a rig count report issued on Friday by Baker Hughes, a GE company, there were 226 offshore rigs actively drilling worldwide in September 2018.

This is a decrease compared to 232 offshore rigs active in August 2018, but an increase versus 209 offshore rigs drilling worldwide in September 2017.

Asia Pacific had the biggest number of active offshore drilling rigs in September (82), followed by the Middle East (48), Europe (30), Latin America (25), USA (20), Africa (19), and Canada (2).

The worldwide rig count, counting both offshore and onshore rigs for September 2018 was 2,258, down 20 from the 2,278 counted in August 2018, and up 177 from the 2,081 counted in September 2017.
