Worldwide offshore rig count in October up 37 rigs year-over-year

The worldwide offshore rig count in October 2019 decreased by two units sequentially, but increased by 37 units year-over-year, according to reports by Baker Hughes Company.

BHGE splits its rig counts into international and North America rig counts, which combined make the worldwide rig count.

Baker Hughes reported on Tuesday that the international rig count for October 2019 was 1,130, down 1 from the 1,131 counted in September 2019, and up 113 from the 1,017 counted in October 2018.

The international offshore rig count for October 2019 was 242, unchanged from September 2019, and up 35 from the 207 counted in October 2018.

Looking at separate regions, Asia Pacific region had the highest number of offshore rigs during October 2019, totaling 91 units. This is down two rigs from 93 in September 2019 and up 12 rigs from October 2018.

In the Middle East region, there were 56 rigs during October 2019, down 1 from September 2019 and up 8 from October 2018.

Europe took third place in the offshore rig count for October 2019 with 42 active units followed by Latin America with 30 and Africa with 23 active units.

In North America, the offshore rig count in October 2019 was 25, down two rigs from September 2019 and up 2 rigs from October 2018.

The average U.S. rig count for October 2019 was 848, down 30 from the 878 counted in October 2019, and down 214 from the 1,062 counted in October 2018.

The average Canadian rig count for October 2019 was 145, up 13 from the 132 counted in September 2019, and down 47 from the 192 counted in October 2018.

The worldwide rig count for October 2019 was 2,123, down 18 from the 2,141 counted in September 2019, and down 148 from the 2,271 counted in October 2018.

The worldwide offshore rig count for October 2019 was 267, down 2 from 269 in September 2019, and up 37 rigs from 230 in October 2018.
