Fire Breaks Out on MV Amsterdam Bridge off Mumbai Coast

 

The merchant vessel MV Amsterdam Bridge caught fire on Sunday afternoon, at approx. 15:30, off the Mumbai coast, Business-Standard reports.

The 54,405 tonne vessel was going to Colombo from Mumbai and was allegedly carrying hazardous cargo.

The crew of the vessel is believed to be safe according to Indian Coast Guard officials.

It is believed that the fire started somewhere near the engine room but the cause is still unknown.

According to the Coast Guard, there is no oil spill detected so far from the vessel whose fuel tank contained 2,600 tonnes of heavy fuel.
